Electric dirt bikes in Provo
Provo doesn't open its streets to OHV-only dirt bikes. To ride its streets, an e-moto needs a street-legal plate.
What Provo's rules say
Provo adopts the state OHV law but doesn't open any city streets to off-highway vehicles, so a bike with only an OHV decal has to be trailered. Keep e-motos off all sidewalks: Provo bans any e-bike-style device faster than state limits from city sidewalks. Everything else on wheels, including e-bikes and scooters, is limited to 10 mph on sidewalks and banned from the downtown sidewalks along University Avenue (400 North to 100 South) and Center Street (100 East to 500 West). After dark, riders need a light or reflectors visible from 500 feet.
Ordinance Provo City Code 9.42.060 (state OHV act adopted) and 9.32.170: Micromobility Devices Checked against the ordinance, November 2026. Read it before you ride: it's the rule, and this page is our summary.Which registration you need
With OHV-only registration, you can't ride Provo streets: trailer the bike to the trail. To ride streets here, make it street-legal and plate it.
